Welcome, New Patients: What to Expect at Your Dentist in Toronto

Choosing a new dentist in Toronto can feel like a big decision—especially if it has been a while since your last checkup, you are new to the neighbourhood, or you are bringing your family in for the first time. At Junction House Dental on Dundas Street West, we welcome new patients and aim to make your first experience straightforward, informative, and comfortable.

Whether you live in The Junction, commute through West Toronto, or are simply looking for a dental home closer to work, this guide walks you through what to expect before, during, and after your initial appointment.

We Are Currently Accepting New Patients

Junction House Dental is open to individuals and families seeking general dental care in Toronto. Our team, led by Dr. David Ho, provides a range of services under one roof—from routine cleanings and preventive care to restorative treatments, cosmetic options, clear aligners, and oral surgery when needed.

If you have been putting off a visit because you are unsure where to start, you are not alone. Many new patients tell us they simply want a clear explanation of their oral health and a plan they can understand. That is exactly what your first visit is designed to provide.

Getting Here: A Convenient Location in West Toronto

Our office is located at 2730 Dundas Street West in The Junction. For many patients, getting here is easier than they expect:

  • Transit: We are a short walk or TTC transfer from Keele Station, Dundas West Station, and the Bloor UP Express—a helpful option if you commute across the city.
  • Driving: Limited street parking is available along Dundas Street West and nearby side streets. GreenP lots within a few minutes’ walk may also be available. Please check posted signs for time limits and restrictions.

If you have questions about directions or parking before your appointment, our team is happy to help when you contact us.

How to Book Your First Appointment

Scheduling is simple. You can call us at (416) 762-3989 or request an appointment online. Online booking is a convenient way to share your preferred date and time; our team will follow up to confirm availability.

If you are experiencing pain or have an urgent concern, let us know when you call or book. We make every effort to see patients with emergency needs as promptly as possible.

What Happens During Your First Visit

Your initial appointment at our Toronto dental office typically includes a comprehensive review of your dental needs and concerns, a discussion of your medical history, an examination by your dentist, and a cleaning with our dental hygienist when appropriate.

During your consultation with Dr. David Ho, your diagnosis and treatment options will be explained in plain language. In some cases, treatment may be possible on the same day as your consultation, depending on your needs and the time available.

Our team is also available to answer your questions, address any concerns, and help you build a dental care plan tailored to your goals. For a detailed overview, visit our page on your first visit.

What to Bring

To help your appointment run smoothly, please bring the following:

  • A list of medications and relevant medical history details
  • Your dental insurance information, including the insurer’s name, group or policy number, and your ID or certificate number
  • Any questions or concerns you would like to discuss
  • Photo identification, if requested at check-in

With your authorization, your previous dental office can forward existing records to us. Even so, we will ask you to complete an updated patient history form when you arrive so our records reflect your current health status.

Completing new patient forms ahead of time can save time at your visit. Ask our team about form availability when you book.

Services Available to New Patients

As a general dental practice in Toronto, we offer care for a wide range of everyday and complex needs. New patients commonly visit us for:

  • Family and pediatric dentistry
  • Dental hygiene and cleanings
  • Fillings, crowns, bridges, and dentures
  • Cosmetic treatments such as teeth whitening and veneers
  • Clear aligners for orthodontic treatment
  • Wisdom tooth and other extractions
  • Dental sedation for anxious patients or longer procedures
  • Emergency dental care

You can explore our full range of options on our dental services page. During your first visit, we will recommend next steps based on your individual oral health—not a one-size-fits-all checklist.

Insurance, Billing, and Financial Arrangements

We understand that cost and coverage are important considerations for new patients. Before treatment begins, our team discusses fees and financial arrangements with you so you know what to expect.

  • Direct billing: We submit insurance claims on your behalf whenever possible.
  • Most insurance plans: We accept many common dental insurance plans and payment methods, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, debit, and cheques.
  • CDCP patients: We welcome patients covered under the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).
  • Fee guide compliance: Our fees align with the Ontario Dental Association fee guide.

Please note that while we bill insurance directly when we can, the patient remains responsible for any balance not covered by the plan. Learn more on our financial arrangements page.

Tips to Prepare for a Comfortable First Visit

A little preparation can help you get the most from your appointment:

  • Write down your questions beforehand. It is easy to forget concerns once you are in the chair. A short list helps ensure nothing important is missed.
  • Share your history openly. Conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, pregnancy, or certain medications can affect dental treatment. Accurate information helps us provide appropriate care.
  • Be honest about dental anxiety. Many people feel nervous at the dentist. Let us know if you have had difficult experiences in the past—we can discuss comfort options, including sedation when clinically appropriate.
  • Plan a little extra time. First visits often take longer than routine follow-ups because of paperwork, assessment, and discussion time.
  • Arrive a few minutes early. This gives you time to complete any remaining forms and settle in before your appointment.

Building a Long-Term Relationship With Your Dental Team

Regular dental visits play an important role in maintaining oral health and catching small issues before they become larger concerns. After your first appointment, we will recommend a recall schedule based on your needs—typically every three to six months for many patients, though individual recommendations may vary.

Our goal is to be a dental practice you feel comfortable returning to—for routine care, questions between visits, and support when something unexpected comes up.
